Secret Invasion!

I attempted to annex part of the DC offices last week.

Here’s how it happened.

At the top of the week, we were visited by a creator who’s working for both companies. In the course of the conversation, he happened to mention that the DC office formerly occupied by Jeanine Schaefer was now empty, since her officemate Tom Palmer had left staff.

I smelled an opportunity for a coup. But I’d need an inside man to carry out the job. So I sent the following e-mail to Mike Marts, former X-MEN and current BATMAN editor:

Mike,

I’ve just been told that the DC office once occupied by Jeanine and Tom Palmer is now vacant.

I am therefore annexing it as part of my massive publishing empire by right of eminent domain.

If you would be so kind as to print out and post the attached flag within the office, it would go a long way to cementing relations between our two great nations.

E Pluribus Unum,

Tom B

Sensing my determination, and reading the winds of fate, Mike shortly thereafter responded with the following:

Tom,

It’s been well documented that you have many strengths...but diplomatic relations is obviously not one of them.

I can only consider this hostile action as an act of war.

The former Schaefer/Palmer office was recently converted to a small-arms arsenal. Guess I have to go unlock the door...

Have at Thee!

-The Darque Nite

Undaunted, I turned to others, such as Mike Carlin, but was again denied satisfaction. Would our banner ever fly free in the heart of enemy territory, a shining beacon of hope to the masses?

As a last resort, I printed out a large copy of the Marvel North banner, and sent it over to Mike Marts along with the Declaration to the left.

I’ve no way of knowing if Duke Marts flew our colors in the unoccupied office or not just yet, but if we can get some taxation without representation going, I for one will be satisfied.

More info as it becomes available.

Your awesomeness

Reminds me of when I declared war on my class mates desk. I had him on the ropes until reinforcements from a previously neutral classmate arrived.

Of course your coup failed. The correct procedure for annexation has been well-documented by 400 years of British mischief:

Step One: Declare existing society to be in chaos and incapable of self-rule;
Step Two: Plant flag and name a colonial governor.

You could probably cut-and-paste something from a previous blog post of Cup O'Joe to satisfy the first requirement. As for the second...perhaps you could send over an ice cream cake with the X-Men logo on it? If they eat it instead of sending it back that's as good as planting the Union Jack, I reckon.

When it comes to choosing a colonial governor, make sure it's someone who will look good on the money. It's these little details that make or break an empire in the early stages.

Are always entertaining to say the least.

I second (or would it be third/fourth) the annexation of DC territory in the name of the Emperor! SPACE MA- Oh wait, I can't say that. Meh, Good luck in the coup Brevoort.

Also looking forward to future updates! :)

Tom,

Given all that you've told us in this blog, I never thought i'd say this, but man, you have way too much free time. Go revamp Fantastic Force or something!

Dear Mr. Brevoort
Today (august 5th) is my birthday. I was hoping that in the spirit of celebration, you would like to share with me some awesome Marvel secrets. Perhaps the name of a new series or two that will be spinning out of Secret Invasion? Or, if that information is too sensitive, I guess u could just send me a Marvel over-sized hardcover or two! Thanks Tom! And until Dan Didio pops out of my birthday cake singing "Happy Birthday Mr. President," Make Mine Marvel!

I can't help now I'm thinking about it, to my question about ' will we see the shining team of Peter Milligan and Chris Bachalo onto something in Marvel ? '...
surely the answer is Spiderman, Bachalo is already on the title, a liitle too caricatural to me ,as his work on X-Men. I remember an annual with Cyclops and Storm after a crash-plane,it was just ...INCREDIBLE !!!
But no, it had been too much for the X-Men, things would hadn't been the same after that for sure, same for 'Generation X ' had pursued.
I mean : 'what the f...?
I'd be really curious to know the readers reason that makes him change his style so much. Why did you hired him ? And I'll be really interested about the reader's wishes about CHANGES.

Invasion
Come on Tom show the guts of our founding fathers. March right over and hammer your declaration right on the front door of Dan Didio's office. Ask yourself, what would Nathan Hale do?

Happy birthday
cryhavok01, it is also my birthday. '81.
27 today. So, Tom, can you recommend 27 separate issues of stand alone Marvel greatness that I should rummage through the long boxes for while using up my gift certificate at the LCS?

Annex DC
Would annexing part of DC give Marvel another lame excuse for butchering the continuity of a central character?

And as a preemptive strike to those who complain about the OMD/BND haters like myself, I'll stop complaining once Marvel starts Makin' Mine again.

As for continued high sales of ASM, I have tons of crappy issues from ASM and Spec. SM and Web SM (see clone saga) but I feel that there were plenty of subpar issues from my fathers generation, I wish he hadn't sold them along with the suitcase he kept them in back in 1975 but he was trying to buy led zepplin tickets. I decided not to make that same choice (i would never consider led zepplin tickets a mistake, I could sell some blood first). So I will pass this hobby onto my son and be sure he understands that you have to get through some of the low points such as this because their will come another hight tide (see upcoming return of JRJR).

The night is always darkest before dawn.

Mephisto shot J.R. Ewing.

So please Make Mine Again Marvel.

coolhanddave, don't ruin this for everyone el
coolhanddave,
Tom Brevoort doesn't have to do these blogs, show us behind the scenes stuff, or any of this. He takes time out of his day to post these things for the fans. Please stay on topic. There are plenty of entries here for you to voice your displeasure at OMD/BND. This isn't one of them. Please don't be the kind of fan who ruins this for others.
